There are a number of benefits to owning a caravan or motorhome and staycations are becoming increasingly popular here in the UK. When you’re wanting to go on a caravan holiday, there are a number of different holiday parks and campsites available to book, and you won’t struggle to find the perfect location for your upcoming getaway.

Lots of holiday parks provide different types of pitches to their visitors these days and you will need to decide which pitch you would like to stay on when booking your holiday. If you’re new to camping and you’re unsure which pitch would be best for your caravan or motorhome, below we have put together some information about the different options available to you at the majority of holiday parks here in the UK.

Grass pitches with electric hook-up

The vast majority of campsites and holiday parks will have grass pitches, and these are the first choice for lots of people who are booking caravan holidays. Most grass pitches will be really spacious and you will have plenty of room for your caravan, motorhome or tent as well as an awning or canopy. You can trust that at reputable holiday parks, the grass pitches will be well maintained too and the grass throughout the park will be kept short.

You can expect to pay around £35 per night for a grass pitch with electric hook-up, however, you may find that during the peak summer season they are around £40 per night. Often, this price is for two adults and there will be additional charges for other adults and children. Some grass pitches will have minimum night stays as well, usually over Bank Holiday weekends.

Hard standing pitches with electric hook-up

In addition to grass pitches with electric hook-up, many holiday parks also offer hard standing pitches too. This alternative pitch is commonly the first choice for motorhome owners as they tend to be level, making it much easier and quicker to set up camp. Some holiday parks will charge more for their hard standing pitches, yet others will keep their prices equal across the whole campsite, so always double-check this upon booking.

Often, when booking a hard standing pitch, you will be provided with a check-in time and you won’t be able to arrive on-site before this time. Similarly, you will get a check-out time too and you will need to be off of your pitch by this time. You may be able to change these times for an extra fee, but this will be dependent on how bust the holiday park is at the time of your visit.

Seasonal pitches

Sometimes, when there is a likelihood of them returning to the same holiday park multiple times throughout the year, people will book a seasonal pitch instead. This type of pitch enables you to keep your caravan or motorhome on the pitch from March through to January if you’d like to and it is often around £3600 for the whole season. When you have a lot of caravan holidays, this is an incredibly cost-effective alternative to a standard pitch.

It isn’t uncommon for things such as water and pitch maintenance to be included in the seasonal pitch fee and whilst staying on-site, you will also have access to all of the facilities and amenities. Should you find a holiday park that you really enjoy staying at, it is definitely worth considering booking a seasonal pitch, so you will always have somewhere to stay.
